Investment Associate – Portfolio Management

Partners Capital Investment Group is a global outsourced investment office seeking a talented Investment Associate to support investment activities for our $30 billion client base of institutions, family offices and sophisticated high net worth individuals.

Description of the Company

Partners Capital is a global outsourced investment office serving investment professionals, endowments, foundations and high net-worth families by providing independent advice on asset allocation and access to leading asset managers across all asset classes and geographic markets.

The firm was founded in 2001 by investment professionals seeking an independent and conflict-free adviser to provide portfolio construction advice and rigorous analysis of investment opportunities. From its initial focus as the "money managers to the money managers" with a base of 70 clients, Partners Capital has grown to become an adviser to endowments, foundations, prominent family offices and successful entrepreneurs across the US, UK, Europe and Asia. Our clients include senior partners at leading asset management firms such as Bain Capital, Blackstone, Apax and Summit Partners, as well as executives, entrepreneurs and institutions, including several Oxford and Cambridge University college endowments, INSEAD business school and other respected endowments and charitable foundations. Our clients tend to be among the most sophisticated investors in the world, possessing a sound understanding of investment principles with experience across all asset classes.

Partners Capital offers customized outsourced investment solutions to our clients. Most relationships involve managing “full balance sheet” multi-asset class portfolios, though we also work on select specialist mandates, such as Private Equity investing.

Our investment philosophy embraces many of the powerful diversification benefits of the "endowment model", but with a more dynamic approach to asset allocation that clearly delineates expected performance derived from market factors (“beta”) from the skill of individual managers (“alpha”).

Our clients expect that we will engage in a sophisticated dialogue regarding portfolio performance, strategies and investment opportunities. Accordingly, all investment professionals at the firm are expected to have a well-rounded set of skills across client investment strategy development and investment research, which are honed in an environment of learning and innovation. We encourage daily interactions with senior members of the team and as a result, our organizational structure offers our professionals a diverse and challenging balance of activities.

Job Description

As a rapidly growing firm, we seek new team members who are dynamic and comfortable working in a fast-paced entrepreneurial environment.

Portfolio Management (Primary Focus): The Investment Associate will primarily work in teams of three to six people to specify, develop and execute our clients’ investment strategies. This will involve, among other things, the setting of long-term asset allocation strategy, the selection of approved investment funds to achieve this strategy, the ongoing monitoring, management and continual improvement of the investment line-up and the production of materials for client meetings to report on investment performance and discuss investment strategy. With support and training, we expect you to grow into a position to be able to attend these meetings and develop relationships with clients.

Asset Manager Due Diligence/Monitoring (Secondary Focus): As part of the Investment Associate’s broader Portfolio Management responsibilities, you will, from time to time, be involved with due diligence and monitoring of asset managers in client portfolios. You will be responsible for conducting qualitative (e.g. understanding strategy, portfolio construction and business structure) and quantitative (e.g. historical performance analysis and risk exposures) analyses on existing and prospective asset managers. The role requires strong Excel modelling skills, the ability to understand complicated investment strategies and professional gravitas.

Other: In addition to the above, you will, for variety, take on other activities and projects, which might include: researching and improving our portfolio construction knowledge and approach, assisting with business development, or helping to develop our technological capabilities.

We are looking for intellectually curious team players with a strong desire to further our reputation for excellence. You will have good problem-solving and interpersonal skills and thrive in a collaborative working environment. You need not have worked within the investment management industry, but you will have worked for one to three years in a professional services role (e.g., within management consulting, investment banking, or accounting) and have a passion for investing. You will have good capabilities in the Office Suite and an undergraduate degree from a top institution, with a strong record of academic achievement. As we are proponents of lifelong learning, you will be keen to commit to further professional development including the CFA qualification, which we will support. If you believe you have some (or all) of these attributes and are looking to fulfil your potential in an intellectually engaging career with good long-term progression prospects in a growing firm, we encourage you to apply.

We offer a competitive package including long term performance related incentives.
