Investment Associate, Secondaries
Position Description
We are looking for a talented Investment Associate to join our Private Equity Secondaries Team in our New York office. The individual will be responsible for supporting senior investment professionals in the growth of our private equity secondaries activities, focused on all transaction types across the secondaries landscape. The individual must be comfortable working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment and will be responsible for contributing to all aspects of the deal process including due diligence, quantitative and qualitative analysis of portfolio companies and funds, and developing an initial and independent view of each investment. In addition, the individual must be equally comfortable working independently as well as with a team to execute on the large investment opportunity set.
Partners Capital has allocated >$13B to private equity funds and co-investments, investing c.$1.5-2.0B annually across primary funds and co-investments. The Private Equity Secondaries Team is the engine for identifying and underwriting attractive secondaries investments for inclusion in client portfolios by making recommendations to the Secondaries Investment Committee.
The primary goal of the Private Equity Secondaries Team is to generate high absolute returns over the long-term by partnering with top-tier managers and high quality companies across the venture, growth, and lower and middle market buyout segments of the Private Equity landscape across North America and Europe. The team supports the growth of the Firm through innovation, creativity, and continuous improvement of our investment program. The team’s mandate requires that we develop our people, our processes, and our systems to stay at the forefront of the investment management industry. Key responsibilities include:
- Management of our investment sourcing and tracking database
- Value and price equity interests in private equity funds and companies
- Analyze business models and market position
- Prepare financial projections and complex transaction modeling
- Prepare investment recommendations
- Supporting the preparation and presentation of Investment Committee materials
- Monitor investment performance and portfolio exposures
Investment Diligence:
- Qualitatively and quantitatively evaluate potential transactions including performing detailed sector and company research and analysis
- Work either independently or with senior members of the Secondaries Team to analyze private equity secondaries opportunities and prepare recommendations
- Leadership role in conducting due diligence meetings and other team initiatives and assist with deal execution and transaction management
- Prepare materials for Investment Committee and other internal meetings
- Support the further development of the analysis tools and frameworks for private equity secondaries investing
- Prepare detailed company-level and fund-level financial modeling for investment evaluation
Structuring and Execution:
- Work with the deal team and internal/external counsel to prepare and coordinate the execution of NDAs, LOIs, purchase agreements and other legal and transaction documentation
- Assist with closing administration
Post-Investment Monitoring:
- Keep up to date on portfolio performance and address any specific requests for action or approval
- Prepare returns forecasts, commentary and other investment information for client meetings and regular portfolio review as required
Deal Sourcing, Marketing, and Fund-Raising:
- Conduct desk research and prepare materials for marketing, deal sourcing and fundraising
- Support and attend external meetings as required
Qualifications / Attributes
- Deep understanding and passion for investing and markets
- 2-4 years of work experience in secondaries, investment banking, or direct investing. Will also consider strong investment-oriented individuals with management consulting or similar backgrounds who have the required quantitative and practical (i.e., LBO modeling) skillsets
- Record of achievement and professional success
- Aptitude for rigorous qualitative and quantitative analysis delivered via an answer-first communication style.
- Flexible entrepreneurial attitude, an appetite for challenge and a team-oriented approach
- Must be comfortable and confident interacting with business leaders and sophisticated asset managers
- Collaborative team player, able to earn the trust of peers and build consensus across the firm while advancing our work
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (particularly Excel and PowerPoint)
Benefits
New York requires Partners Capital to include a reasonable estimate of the base salary range for this role. This base salary range is specific to individuals applying to work in our New York office and takes into account a number of factors. A reasonable estimate of the base salary range for this role in New York is $120,000 – $165,000. The base salary offered will be determined on factors such as experience, skills, training, certifications, and education. Decisions will be determined on a case-by-case basis. The base salary is one element of our competitive compensation package. In addition to the base salary, this position may be eligible for performance-based incentives and our profit share program.
