Everyone at Partners Capital was saddened to hear of the passing of Lord Rothschild on 26 February 2024. He was a long-time shareholder, one of our most active advisors and an unwavering friend of the firm. We miss him terribly. Despite his passing, we retain a strong relationship with the Rothschild family through the Rothschild Family Foundation’s strategic shareholding in Partners Capital.

Lord Jacob Rothschild was Chair of RIT Capital Partners from 1988 until 2019. Having left NM Rothschild & Sons in 1980, he co-founded companies in money management, insurance and investment, including Global Asset Management and St James’s Place plc. He served as Deputy Chairman of BskyB Plc for five years to 2008. He served on a number of family office advisory boards, was the Chairman of The Rothschild Foundation in the UK and was President of Yad Hanadiv (The Rothschild Foundation in Israel).

In addition to his career in finance he was involved in public service including the arts, heritage and philanthropy having chaired The National Gallery, The National Heritage Memorial Fund and The Heritage Lottery Fund. He was awarded the Order of Merit by Her Majesty the Queen in 2002. The order is given to those who have rendered exceptionally meritorious service in the field of the arts, learning, literature and science, and are limited in number to 24 in the United Kingdom.
