Position Description

This is an exciting opportunity for a best-in-class tax professional to join a prestigious investment business, in a newly created role, following the sale of a minority stake to a long- term strategic Private Equity firm.

We are seeking a knowledgeable and experienced US Tax Manager to join our team. This professional will oversee our company’s tax planning, prepare and review tax returns, and ensure timely and accurate compliance with all federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations. They will also provide tax advice and strategies that are tailored to meet the needs of our clients and organization, involving significant interaction with our Partnership group.

The ideal candidate will be a problem solver with a strategic mindset, able to analyze complex tax information and formulate effective tax strategies. They will be a self-starter with a clear and concise communication style, with experience of dealing with senior executives in their day-to-day interactions. They will uphold the highest level of integrity and confidentiality when dealing with sensitive financial information.

This role will be responsible for:

  • Overseeing the preparation and filing of all federal, state, and local tax returns.
  • Researching and strategizing on tax planning opportunities to minimize tax liabilities and risks.
  • Ensuring full compliance with tax laws and regulations.
  • Reviewing and managing tax provisions for financial statements.
  • Providing internal tax advisory services and communicating tax strategies to management.
  • Identifying and mitigating tax risks.
  • Coordinating and managing tax audits.
  • Maintaining tax balances on general ledger.
  • Provide support during acquisitions and mergers from a tax perspective.
  • Stay updated on current tax practices and changes in tax law.
  • Developing and managing team members, providing guidance, training, and motivation.
  • Responsible for ensuring all information security processes, policies and procedures are adhered to and any issues or concerns are raised with the Cyber Security team
  • Ensure full compliance with all local data protection regulations and privacy controls, and any related issues are raised via the appropriate channels

Qualifications / Attributes

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field. A master’s degree or CPA certification is preferred.
  • Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in tax accounting
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a tax manager or public accountant role.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the US tax code, compliance, and procedure.
  • Strong experience with tax planning, risk analysis, and strategy.
  • Proficiency with tax software programs and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Proven project management abilities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.

Core Competencies:

  • Demonstratable experience dealing with corporate taxes for US Corporate and Partnership entities at both at the State and Federal levels, bearing ultimate responsibility.
  • Experience with transfer pricing for a global financial services organisation is desirable.
  • Familiarity with US payroll tax regulation and the ability to resolve payroll tax issues through external tax advisors.
  • Understanding of tax US implications and reporting for foreign subsidiaries.
  • Understanding of corporate tax structuring and complex group structures.

Fund and Client Competencies:

  • Liaise with the Head of Fund Regulatory Services to manage GP tax filings for the firm based on Pooled Vehicle K-1s.
  • Provide tax suitability advice for clients and funds, both Registered and Private.
  • Provide guidance on tax positioning for Registered funds, including but not limited to subchapter-M and excise tax.

Other Competencies:

  • Ability to assist partners with personal taxes in so far as they relate to the Group.
